Requirements

The task of Elinext was to develop an application for different platforms to make punching calculation simpler and easier to use for end customers.

Challenge

To create a robust, simple application that is run on most of the existing desktop/mobile OSs. It should allow easily switch from metric to imperial units of measure and vice versa, download brochures for offline reading, and support the following languages: German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Czech, and Chinese.

The other challenge is due to many complex calculations, there should be a strong separation between the logic layer and the presentation layer, for maintenance and support.

Solution

To meet multiplatform requirements Apache Cordova was used. It allows creating a native application using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, device-specific operations are done using plugins. To separate logic and UI, it was decided to use AngularJS.

Results

Elinext created a very useful application that is not limited to two mobile platforms – iPhone OS and Android OS but can be used as a website too.

The Punch Guide app puts the most important parameters at the fingertips of work schedulers, engineers, and operators.

The following calculations are available with Punch Guide:

  • Punching force
  • Cutting clearance
  • Prepunching diameter
  • Maximum edge length
  • Stripper selection
  • Sheet thickness conversion
  • Sheet weight

Some useful brochures are also available for download.
